In the process of attempting to build my portfolio and develop different styles of art, I ran into an issue. What is an appropriate form of nudity in paintings? My personal opinion is that nudity in art is beautiful. I enjoy working with the human form as the curves and intricacies to the body far surpass the complexity of any other subject.
Other people may not view nudity the same way as I do and that is where I have run into this dilemma. What is the difference between the classic way the famous artists have portrayed nudes and today’s interpretation? The woman’s body and the way society portrays sex appeal has changed.
I do not want my art to be ever seen as raunchy, but what the viewer takes from the piece is something I must come to terms with as an artist. This issue has motivated me to play with this idea of nudity in subsequent paintings. Stay tuned and notify me of your reaction.
I agree with the end statements...the truth is you'll never be able to control what every person takes from your art....that why you simply have to express yourself and realize you are the only one that you will be able to make sure GETS IT. How ever Im sure if you make it about art instead of sex...you'll be fine.
ReplyDeleteIf only the world could assume the artists' perception of the human form there would be so many less body issues among people, especially women. It's societal for sure, in Europe as you know, it is a different perspective all together. Here in the U.S., a bare breast causes an uproar and is seen as obscene. Will it ever change? I suppose one of our jobs as artists is to put an answer to the question out in the world in the form of what we perceive as art. Either it's accepted or not, and the effort is worth it or we wouldn't do what we do. Keep on keepin' on Nicole! :) Diana
ReplyDeleteArt is subjective and will be viewed by many audiences with a variety of opinions about it. As an artist, you can only hope to convey your intent/thoughts through your work. You can't stand next to every piece you've created and defend it. What is impressive about an artist is that they have the guts to put their work out there to be judged and no matter the response, a true artist will continue to create.
